His KDA was also the highest in a best-of-five series, with Rekkles’ best performance against G2 Esports being a 1.35. Team Vitality’s star-carry in Rekkles was, and remains, one of the best in the LEC. With a staggering 1.23 KDA, Rekkles was the top KDA support in the LEC by a very wide margin during his time on the team.

Additionally, each League selects a player to face during the regular season so they can their preseason roster and advance to the playoffs. To enter the playoffs, the winner will be chosen on a 1-by-1 basis from those who advance to the semifinals or a semifinal round at each league's first meeting.

They put together a strong regular season but it wasn’t quite enough. In the summer finals they played Fnatic, and, well, you know the rest. This year, Doublelift won the title, but it was a quiet victory for Team SoloMid.

The players on the roster were the same as last year, but the team was missing a few key elements. In particular, the team’s first shotcaller and jungler, Dennis "Svenskeren" Johnsen and William "Meteos" Hartman. The team had to rely on their previous year’s carry, Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng, and it didn’t feel like a natural step in the team’s development. This season the team didn’t get that boost.

For the most part they didn’t have big names either. The roster is built for success, but it’s built for a specific kind of success. They were just the right players for the right team at the right time. They don’t have the individual accolades that the likes of Ssumday, Licorice, Ryu, Darshan and Caps have. These are just the first three players how to build league of legends ever win the split.

This season, after two straight disappointing seasons in the LCS, the team’s first true step forward came with a roster overhaul that resulted in an entirely new roster. They came into the split with a strong base, a roster full of talent and a set of play-styles that was both highly adaptable and extremely potent. This is Team SoloMid’s third straight season winning it all.

The three remaining games will host the next MLS playoffs in 2021. PT on Sunday, September 13, and the second game will wrap up at 9:30 p.m. PT on Monday, September 14. The first one will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Licorice has a more "go-for-broke" playstyle that aligns better with Wildturtle. As for the other LEC mids, Bjergsen is the most similar to Rekkles, having an "Elise is alive" playstyle that fits the mid lane.

Gen.G ended the summer split with a record of 10-6, good enough for third place. They went on to reach the semi-finals of the Mid-Season Invitational, losing to Fnatic in the deciding series. The team ended up in fourth place, but with a record of 9-7 and losing to KT Rolster.

That will be the next step in the growth of eSports in North America. A region that has historically held the title of the world’s best player may be losing that position to South Korea. For every champion like Doublelift, whose success at a young age is built on a reputation of being the second best player in the world (and that title has helped him in some ways), the gap between the two regions seems to be getting wider.

But then you end up in a game where you aren’t even playing with your usual team. You try to get them back in the game for whatever reason. When you leave your team you aren’t feeling like you want to play with them any longer, but you still feel bad about leaving. You try your hardest to get back in the game but as it goes on, you feel more and more like you are about to quit. You start a game and right off the bat your teammates start talking with each other and you start thinking, it’s about to be awkward." So you get up and leave. But they are a good team so you still have to play with them. So you get to stay in the game and enjoy your time with them. Then you end up on the same team as the person you were trying to play with in the first place. I’m sure most people who play League of Legends have this happen to them.

If LEC teams look to replicate Vitality’s success from season three, it might be worthwhile to pay particular attention to Rekkles’ stats. Looking at Rekkles’ stats from season three, it’s clear that he played a significant role in Vitality’s success.

In 2013, Team Dignitas did it after 19 straight playoff appearances, the team behind it, Splyce, set the record in 2016 after reaching the Finals. It’s worth noting that Team SoloMid isn’t the first to achieve the feat. They haven’t lost a single set yet, a perfect 18-0 record. But it was this year’s NA team that finally broke the previous record.

From the top names in China’s scene, including Invictus Gaming, Royal Never Give Up and Invictus Gaming, down to new names and even some rising western teams, China has teams on the LPL that are more fan-friendly than the League of Legends fanbases from western countries.

This performance on the international stage was a perfect cap to the team’s strong showing on the domestic stage. It’s unlikely Gen.G will end up in third place in the upcoming regular season, but we’ll see what happens at the end of the split.
